2. Women in Astronomy Lunch Meeting
The gender and diversity dimension of science and technology has become one of the most important and debated issues worldwide, impacting society at every level. The International Astronomical Union, through its Executive Committee Working Group on Women in Astronomy, has been a strong advocate for discussing these themes openly and for supporting initiatives that can improve a more balanced representation of diversity in our community. In this context, the Organizing Committee of the IAU EC WG on Women in Astronomy together with the NOC and LOC of the IAU-GA in Vienna are proud to announce the Women in Astronomy Lunch Meeting, that will take place on Wednesday, 29 August, 2018, 12:00-13:30, in room L3+L6.
This year WL programme includes presentations by Dr. Andreas Keil (European Research Council) and by Prof. Ewine van Dischoeck (IAU President Elect), as well as the opportunity to network. Attendance to the lunch (which despite its name is open to everybody), only with a pre-booked ticket.
We kindly acknowledge a generous donation by US National Academy of Sciences (US NAS) and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (NASL) that have made the organization of this event possible.
3. Meet-a-Mentor Sessions for Students and Early Career Astronomers
The EC Working Group on Women in Astronomy, together with the IAU GA NOC and LOC, is proud to announce that also at this General Assembly there will be Meet-a-Mentor sessions organised during the lunch breaks on the following days: 22/24/27/30 August. This initiative aims at creating an opportunity for early career scientists (primarily students/early post-docs) to meet with established members of our community and chat about career opportunities and lessons learned. In case of questions, please contact: Francesca Primas (fprimas@eso.org ; Chair of the WG WiA) or Theresa Lueftinger (theresa.rank-lueftinger@univie.ac.at ; IAU GA NOC/LOC)
4. TAKE PART to the JOINT GLOBAL SURVEY!
The IAU is one of the main partners in the cross-disciplinary project "The Gender Gap in Science", sponsored by the International Council of Science. One of its main objectives is a Joint Global Survey, an ambitious world-wide anonymous poll, targeting 45,000 respondents across several STEM/STEM-related fields of research (from mathematics, physics and astronomy to biology, computer science and more).
This is your opportunity to take part in such a unique and global effort and contribute to depict our field and its community across the world! The survey is available in 7 languages at: http://statisticalresearchcenter.org/global18
